Mishimoto Coolant Tanks

Mishimoto’s tanks cover every reservoir in a cooling system and a little beyond. Expansion tanks, which run under pressure as part of the coolant circuit, are made for particular models in polished, silver, black or red finishes. Overflow tanks catch the coolant pushed out past the radiator cap, and there are universal one-litre versions as well as model-specific ones.

For custom systems there are universal aluminium coolant reservoirs, weld-on fill necks in 32 and 42 mm, coolant fill inlets and a power steering reservoir. Ice tanks in 2.5 and 5 US gallon sizes serve air-to-water intercooler systems, where a tank of iced water is used for short runs such as drag passes.

Check the cap before fitting. An expansion tank carries system pressure, so its cap must match the car maker’s rating, while an overflow tank is not pressurised and only needs to vent.

The model-specific tanks name their application in the title; none of them is attached to a vehicle record. Mount a universal tank at the highest point of the system where possible, so air collects in it rather than in the engine.
