Oil Filters guide

These oil filters protect feeds that need extra care, such as a turbocharger’s oil supply, and add options around the main filter. The range includes a compact in-line filter with 4AN male ends, a 44 micron replacement element, a sandwich plate adapter and a replacement filter.

A turbocharger shaft spins on a very thin oil film, so debris from new lines, fittings or an earlier failure can quickly score its bearings. An in-line filter on the feed stops that debris first. The micron figure gives the particle size the element is made to stop: 44 micron filters finer than 80 micron but clogs sooner, and a blocked feed starves the turbo.

Choose by where the filter sits:

  • In-line filter: 80 micron element with 4AN male inlet and outlet, for small feed lines.
  • Replacement element: 44 micron, made for one maker’s turbo oil pressure regulator and oil filter, named in the title.
  • Sandwich plate: a universal adapter that fits between the engine and the main filter, adding ports for sensors or oil cooler lines.
  • Size: where dimensions are listed, such as 82 mm wide and 80 mm high, check the space around the mounting point.

Mount an in-line filter where it can be reached and inspected, and follow any flow direction marked on it. Flush new lines before connecting them, and prime the turbo with oil before the first start. Inspect the element at every oil change and after any engine or turbo failure. With a sandwich plate, check that the filter still seals squarely on its face and clears nearby parts.
