ACT Clutch Discs

ACT’s discs are divided by friction material before anything else. The Performance Street discs use an organic facing with a high copper content, and ACT describes their engagement as smooth. The race discs use ceramic pads in 4-pad or 6-pad designs, and ACT is clear that they engage more harshly in return for a firmer, more positive shift.

Both kinds come sprung or rigid. A sprung hub has torsional damping springs that soften take-up and reduce gear rattle. A rigid hub is lighter but sends more vibration to the gearbox, and ACT warns that rigid discs can increase spline wear. A small Modified street range sits alongside.

The disc is only part of the clutch, so a race disc is normally paired with a matching pressure plate, and the flywheel should be resurfaced or replaced at the same time. Renew the release bearing while the gearbox is out, since it is the part that brings the job back soonest if it fails.

Honda has the most listings, then Mazda and Toyota, with Nissan, Subaru, Ford, Audi and Mitsubishi next.
