ACT Pressure Plates

Every ACT pressure plate here is a Heavy Duty or an Xtreme plate, and the Xtreme part numbers end in X. ACT quotes a clamp load 20 to 50 per cent above standard for Heavy Duty and 50 to 120 per cent above for Xtreme. It describes the pedal effort as light to moderate for Heavy Duty and moderate to heavy for Xtreme, and recommends both for use with a street or race disc.

The choice weighs the torque the clutch must hold against the pedal weight you will accept: pick Heavy Duty unless the engine needs more clamp load, since the Xtreme plate brings a heavier pedal.

The plates are listed individually, identified by ACT part number, so they can be paired with a new disc and flywheel; renewing the release bearing at the same time is common practice. Part of the range has vehicle fitment: Mazda, Ford, Honda, Volkswagen and BMW models such as the Mazda 3 and MX-5, the Honda Civic (FC and FK) and the BMW 3 Series (E46). Tighten the cover bolts evenly in a cross pattern, with the disc centred by an alignment tool.
