EBC Brake Pad Wear Sensors guide
EBC’s wear sensors are the wires that warn the driver when brake pads are nearly worn out. They are made for cars with electronic wear indicators, where a sensor clipped into the pad reports to the car’s computer and lights a warning on the dashboard.
Each sensor carries an EFA part number and suits either the front or the rear brakes, with front sensors the larger share. A sensor has no compound or grade, so the only choice is the correct part for the axle.
These sensors have no vehicle fitment attached, so compare the EFA number, the cable length and the connector with the sensor on your car, or with the one you are replacing. Sensors for the same model can differ between front and rear, and between versions with different brake sizes.
On most cars the sensor is a single-use part. Once the pad has worn through to it, or it has been prised out of an old pad, fit a new one with the new pads. Route the wire along its original clips, clear of the disc and the steering, and reset the service warning if the car requires it.
