Simons Bends

Simons bends are universal sections for making or mending an exhaust, sold by angle, diameter and material. Standard bends run from 30 degrees through 45, 60 and 90 to a full 180, and there are 90-degree elbows as well. Long cardan bends, around 650 to 900 mm, carry a pipe up and over an axle or propshaft.

Diameters run from 38 mm up to 127 mm, or 1.5 to 5 inches, with the inch size given in the title for the common sizes, such as 2.25, 2.5 and 3 inches. That covers most road-car pipework as well as large-bore systems.

Most sizes are offered in both stainless steel and mild steel, but not all. Some, including the 70 mm bends and several of the smaller sizes, are stainless only, so check the material in the title before planning a system around one finish.

When joining sections, match the bend to the pipe’s outside diameter, or use a sleeve or a reducer to step between sizes. Keeping the whole system in one material avoids welding dissimilar metals and gives the joints an even finish.
