    Racing Nets guide

A racing net is a webbing net mounted beside the driver, which limits how far the head, shoulders and arms can swing sideways in an impact or a roll. Those listed here are homologated to FIA 8863-2013, the FIA standard for racing nets, and can be mounted on the driver’s left or right.

In a side impact or a roll, the head and upper body swing sideways relative to the car. A tensioned net catches them early and spreads the load over a wide area, while the open mesh still lets the driver see through it. A quick release lets the net drop away, so the driver can get out or rescuers can reach in.

    The versions differ in detail:

    • Release and strap: all have a quick release and a front strap that adjusts to suit different seating positions. One version uses a smaller release, to keep the driver’s view clear.
    • Mounting and view: another adds a large triangle that makes mounting to the FIA rules easier, and thinner straps for a wider field of view.
    • Polyester net: carries an ECE marking alongside FIA 8863-2013.

Mount the net to the safety cage at the points and tension its instructions show, and check that the release works with gloved hands. Your series rules say where a net is required and which label it must carry. Replace the net after an impact, or once the webbing shows cuts, fraying or sun fade.
