Wagner Tuning Downpipes

Wagner Tuning’s downpipes replace the section of exhaust directly behind the turbocharger. The titles spell out the model, engine, power output and years each one is made for, sometimes with a note such as ‘not for quattro’.

The main choice is the catalyst. Most versions carry a 200 cpsi catalytic converter, a few use 100 or 300 cpsi, and the decat versions have none. The figure is the number of cells per square inch in the catalyst’s honeycomb: fewer cells leave a wider passage, more cells give the coating more area. For cars built with a petrol particulate filter, versions with and without it are listed separately, so check how your car left the factory.

All of these downpipes state in their product details that they have no EC type approval.

A downpipe changes the flow and the sensor readings behind the turbo, so most installations need an engine calibration to match. The lambda sensors, and any particulate filter sensors, move across to the new pipe. Fit new gaskets and fixings, assemble the rest of the exhaust loosely at first, then tighten it from the turbo backwards.
