Front Bumper Lips for Honda Civic EK

    Front Bumper Lips guide

A front bumper lip extends the lower edge of the front bumper towards the road. It limits the air rushing under the car, gives the nose a lower, sharper line and takes the scrapes before the bumper does. The lips here are made for specific models, mostly in polyurethane, and a universal lip completes the range.

Air meeting the nose divides: some flows over the bonnet, some through the grille and the rest under the car. Underneath, the exhaust, subframes and wheel wells slow it down, so its pressure stays high and the front tends to lift. A lip cuts that underbody flow, and where it reaches forwards like a small splitter, air piling onto its top face presses down as well.

These forces grow with the square of speed, so at road speeds a lip is mostly styling. On a circuit, added front downforce shifts the balance forwards and can ease understeer in fast corners, although the rear may then feel lighter. The cost is clearance: the lip meets kerbs, ramps and speed bumps first, and nose-dive under braking brings it lower still.

Narrow the choice by material, car and style:

    • Material: polyurethane (PU) bends on contact and springs back, which suits a low road car. ABS is stiffer and keeps a crisp edge, but a hard hit can split it, especially in cold weather.
    • Model, years and body: titles give the model generation, its years and often the door count. Two- or three-door and four-door versions of one generation can have different bumpers, and a facelift may change the shape.
    • Style: designs follow factory sport versions, OEM-style shapes and well-known tuner kits, and one includes matching fog light covers. Depth and profile differ, so judge the pictures against your ride height.
    • Universal lip: for bumpers without a dedicated part, it is trimmed and shaped along the edge on the car.

Offer the lip up before painting and check the gap along its full length. Fix it with stainless screws or rivets and large washers through the bumper’s lower edge, then bond the face with polyurethane adhesive or trim tape on a degreased surface. Tape alone can peel at the leading edge once air gets behind it.

Paint on polyurethane needs a flexible primer and a flex additive, or it crazes as the lip bends. Check the fixings after any hard scrape, since a loose lip can fold under the car at speed. A rear lip and side skirts in the same style carry the line around the car.
