Miscellaneous Bushings guide
Miscellaneous bushings collects parts that do not belong to a single bush category. It holds a boots replacement package: a set of boots, listed by vehicle, for renewing the protective covers on joints without replacing the joints themselves.
A boot is the flexible cover over a ball joint, spherical bearing or similar moving joint. It keeps grit, salt and water out and holds the lubricant in. Once a boot splits, dirt reaches the bearing surfaces and the joint wears quickly, developing play and knocks.
Renewing a boot while the joint is still tight keeps that joint sealed and in service. Left torn, a boot lets water in on every wet drive, and a sound joint soon becomes a worn one.
Before ordering:
- Joint condition: boots only help a joint that is still sound. If it has play or feels gritty when moved, replace the joint.
- Vehicle and position: check the models in the title and compare the boot sizes with the old ones.
- Contents: confirm which joints the package covers before stripping the car.
Clean the joint thoroughly, repack it with fresh grease if it is a greased type, and seat the new boot fully before fitting its clips or rings. Check boots at every service, and after any gravel or off-road use, so a split is caught before dirt does its damage.
