Gauges & Sensors for Honda Civic EK

    Gauges & Sensors guide

Gauges show what the standard dashboard leaves out: oil pressure and temperature, water temperature, fuel pressure and level, boost, voltage and engine speed. This section lists the gauges, the senders and sensors that feed them, and the parts to fit both, such as hose adapters, gauge pods and brackets. It also has tyre pressure gauges and an infrared thermometer.

Each gauge is listed by what it reads and its range, for example 50 to 150 °C for oil temperature, 9 to 17 V for voltage or up to 30 psi of boost. Tachometers read up to 12,000 rpm, and some recall the highest reading. The common face size is 52 mm, which suits standard pods.

    • Senders must match the gauge. Check the thread, often 1/8 NPT or M14 × 1.5, and for fuel level the resistance range, for example 0 to 90 ohms.
    • Hose adapters put a temperature sensor into a coolant hose. They are listed by the hose diameter, from 26 to 38 mm, and the sensor thread, in black or silver aluminium.

Place gauges where you can read them at a glance and clear of where an airbag deploys. Electric gauges need only a wire to the sender, which keeps oil and fuel out of the cabin; a mechanical gauge runs a line to the dash, so route it carefully. Seal sender threads with a sealant suited to the fluid, and check for leaks with the engine hot. Wire the gauges to a fused, switched supply and a good earth.
