Side Skirts for Toyota GT86 ZN6

    Side Skirts guide

Side skirts extend the sills downwards between the wheel arches. They give the car a lower line, link the front and rear bumpers and limit how much air spills sideways under the car. The parts here are polyurethane and ABS skirts, plus side strakes, mostly listed for specific models.

Where a front lip, splitter or diffuser lowers the pressure under the floor, the air along the sides is at higher pressure. Without a barrier it leaks in under the sills and raises the underbody pressure again, eroding that gain. A skirt narrows the gap, although on a road car with a cluttered floor the effect is modest.

Skirts sit at the lowest point of the sill, so they meet kerbs, ramps and trolley jacks first. Keep the jacking points reachable, because a jack placed on a skirt will crush it.

    Choose by material and car:

    • Material: polyurethane gives on impact and recovers its shape, while ABS is stiffer and holds sharp lines but can crack on a hard hit.
    • Model: most titles give the model and years, as the sill shape changes between generations.
    • Skirts or strakes: full skirts run the length of the sill, and the side strakes follow a factory style.

Line the skirts up with the bumper ends before drilling, then fix them with screws or rivets into the sill and bond them along their length. Prime and wax every hole in the sill so it cannot rust. Use a flexible paint system on polyurethane, and pair the skirts with front and rear lips in the same style.
