ARP

This section collects ARP’s engine and driveline fasteners, sorted by the job they do:

  • cylinder head, main caps and connecting rods;
  • flywheel and clutch;
  • intake and exhaust manifolds;
  • water pump, pulleys and accessory brackets;
  • oil pump, air cleaner and driveline mounts.

Alongside the kits are nuts, washers and individual bolts sold by size, and tools such as ring compressors and thread chasers.

Most kits are made for one engine family and say so in the title, so start from the engine rather than the car. The listings then give the details that decide the choice:

  • Material: usually 8740 chrome moly or ARP2000, with other alloys for particular jobs.
  • Head: 12-point heads suit tight counterbores; hex heads take a common socket.
  • Individual fasteners: listed by thread (metric, UNC or UNF), length, head and finish (typically black oxide or stainless), in packs of different sizes.

How a fastener is installed matters as much as what it is made of. The torque figures that come with ARP parts assume the specified lubricant and clean threads. Chase the threads in the block or head first, lubricate as instructed and follow the tightening sequence and steps. Some fasteners, rod bolts in particular, are tightened by measuring stretch rather than torque. Keep the torque wrench in calibration, and check the length of any fastener that goes into a blind hole so that it cannot bottom out.
