Golf Mk5 brakes cover the hatchback and estate, including the GTI, the R32 and the 4Motion cars, and disc size depends on the model. The front disc is 280 or 288 mm on most engines and 312 mm on the GTI and the 125 kW 2.0 diesel. The R32 gets a 345 mm front disc and a 310 mm rear one.

Choose pads by use. EBC’s Ultimax is the OE-type option and its Greenstuff 2000 and Redstuff the street pads. The sport grade includes DS2500 from Ferodo and Hawk’s HP Plus, and among race compounds are Ferodo DS UNO, Hawk DTC-60 and ER-1 and PBS ProRace.

On the disc side, EBC lists plain discs, USR and BSD slotted discs and dimpled discs, with DBA’s En-Shield and T3 versions, plus Hawk Talon and PBS High Carbon discs. Rear discs are solid on some versions and vented on others, and there are EBC braided lines as well.
