The Golf Mk4 page takes in the hatchback, estate and cabriolet, but the cabriolet shares its parts with the Golf III cabriolet, so its springs and kits are titled Golf III/IV Cabrio. Choose from those only if you have the convertible.

Four-wheel-drive cars need their own parts too. The 4Motion versions, including the R32 and the V6 and VR6, have separate coilovers from H&R and Eibach. H&R also splits several front-wheel-drive sets at 910 kg of front axle load, with a similar split at 980 kg for estate kits.

On an older car the springs deserve a look first: Eibach’s ERL line lists original-height replacements by wire diameter, front and rear. From there, the lowering options run through Eibach’s Pro-Kit springs and complete B12 kits to H&R’s Cup Kits, a deeper version among them. Beyond those are coilovers such as KW’s V3 Clubsport or ST’s XTA.
