Listings for the B5 A4 cover the saloon and the Avant, and its suspension divides first by drivetrain (front-wheel drive or quattro), with separate sets for the S4 and the RS4. H&R goes further and splits several front-drive springs and coilovers by front axle load, at 970 or 980 kg depending on the body.

With a car of this age, renewal often comes first. Bilstein lists B4 replacement dampers as well as its B6 and B8, and springs at the original height come as B3 from Bilstein or ERL from Eibach.

For a lower stance, H&R lists lowering springs and coilovers for each body and drivetrain, including the RS4. Its Cup Kit Sport is listed for early front-drive cars built up to January 1999. Bilstein and Eibach sell B12 kits for the Avant, ST lists kits by engine, and coilovers also come from KW (V1 to V3), ST, AP and DTS.
