HANS
The HANS device — Head And Neck Support — is the original frontal head restraint, developed in the 1980s by biomechanical engineer Dr. Robert Hubbard and racing driver Jim Downing. By tethering the helmet to a collar worn under the harness, it limits dangerous head and neck movement in a frontal impact, and is now mandatory in most major forms of motorsport.
Now produced under Simpson Performance Products, the HANS range includes models in varying sizes and rake angles — such as the HANS III and the lightweight Pro Ultra Lite — alongside replacement tethers, anchor kits, and padding. HANS remains the reference standard in head-and-neck protection.
